Why did it take a global pandemic to learn about these amazing women?
These are leaders who are beating back COVID and saving their countries in diverse and surprising ways. The countries they lead have the lowest death rates, the fewest number of cases and their economies are on the rise again.
As this article from The New York Times, Why Are Women-Led Nations Doing Better With Covid-19? states, that though we should be careful about drawing conclusions based on gender, their successes could be because their country is inherently a more inclusive society and this thinking permeates their institutions and beliefs.
Prominent medical doctor, Dr. Devri Sridhar, knows all about this. She is the Chair of Global Health at the University of Edinburgh Medical School. Dr. Devri Sridhar is quoted as saying “The only way to avoid ‘groupthink’ and blind spots is to ensure representatives with diverse backgrounds and expertise are at the table when major decisions are made.”
