Night Owls Rejoice

Some studies show we’re smarter

You know how it’s light until 9 PM in the summer? I hate it. Really, I do. I rejoice when it’s dark at 5 PM — it’s the best feeling ever.

Why?

I’m a night owl. In my opinion, any obligation before noon should be optional. This has been my biological pattern since I was a baby. My mother told me that I would be up all night and sleep all day.

So, how did it come to be that “the early bird gets the worm” was meant to be motivational? Unless you’re drinking straight out of a bottle of tequila, who the hell wants a worm?

At night I am my most creative and relaxed. In fact, it’s when I do my writing. Like right now.

Yet, Night Owls are often maligned by society. I’ve read that ‘go-getters’ wake up at 5 AM, and if you don’t do this, you’re a slacker.

Hell no.

While they’re asleep by 9 PM, I’m just warming up. (Who’s slacking now, eh?)

What Defines a Night Owl?

Though there is no hard and fast definition, it’s generally agreed that Night Owls stay up late and don’t like to get up early.
